Our Story
For many years, Bali’s food supply was entirely self-sustaining. Increases in population along with the introduction of conventional farming practices have led to the deterioration of the fundamentally interconnected relationships of Tri Hita Karana- the relationships between humans, nature, and spirituality.
Today, Bali often relies solely on other countries for some fruits and vegetables. Yayasan Tri Hita Karana Bali is looking to change this situation and restore harmonious relationships between people, the natural environment and God.
Tri Hita Karana Bali is made up of people from different parts of the world, bringing together different experiences, backgrounds and skills. We are united by our commitment to finding and implementing solutions for sustainability. We are farmers, students, educators, professionals, volunteers, children, adults, activists, and change-makers.
Our Mission:
Yayasan Tri Hita Karana Bali is reinvigorating the Balinese philosophy of harmony between people, nature, and spirituality through community development and education programmes based on permaculture principles to create sustainability for the island of Bali.
Our Philosophy
To know Bali intimately requires that one understand the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana. Literally translating as “the three causes of goodness”, Tri Hita Karana is the origin of the Balinese belief system centered on maintaining a harmonious relationship with God, people, and nature. This philosophy manifests itself in Balinese land use, settlement arrangements, architecture, ceremonies, rituals, art and social organization.
The philosophy of Tri Hita Karana affirms that happiness, prosperity, and peacefulness are attainable when the three elements of God, Human, and Nature coexist in harmony with each other in daily life.
